Maths Week - Tuesday 4th - Friday 7th May

Throughout Maths week, our fantastic pupils carried out cross-curricular investigations.  They designed their own board games, investigated the Egyptian number system and recreated Matisse's The Snail using 2D shapes. Here are a few examples from pupils in Years 1, 2, 3 and 4:

New member of Cedarwood!

Pupils have enjoyed being back in school for the Spring term and recently welcomed a new arrival in the form of a 1.5 metre fantastic dragon! The sculpture created by a Year 3 pupil and her father was inspired by the class’ cross-curricular work and has become a new resident in the school library. There will be a whole-school competition to name the dragon and we are excited about the future work he or she is sure to inspire!

Author joins us on Zoom!

Frank Cottrell-Boyce, author of multiple screenplays and children's books, joined our Year 5 pupils on their online English lesson, after responding to their tweet, which featured artwork inspired by one of his books.  Having ‘liked’ their tweet in response to his popular novel, ‘Cosmic’, Frank treated our excited readers and staff to a personal, live, Questions and Answers session. The children were thrilled to be making contact with an author whose work they have loved reading and this inspired further lessons during the Lockdown period.  During the Zoom lesson, Mr Cottrell-Boyce was asked: "What does it feel like when you write?" He responded saying "It’s a mixture of feelings. When you first start to write it’s tingling and bright like this morning. Exciting.”

Our staff are always looking to bring learning to life and the period of Lockdown has been no different. The whole Cedarwood Community has been exceptional; with staff, pupils and parents working together to ensure high quality remote learning that very closely matched in-school provision.  It has been lovely opening our doors fully again since early March and seeing all the children in one place again. Welcome back!

When your child is unwell through the Coronavirus pandemic

Whilst it is extremely important to follow Government advice to stay at home during this period, it can be confusing to know what to do when your child is unwell or injured.
Remember that NHS 111, GPs and hospitals are still providing the same safe care that
they have always done. Here is some advice to help:
