PSHEE Intent, Implementation & Impact
Intent
At Cedarwood we recognise PSHEE as an essential part of every child’s education. It is our intention that through the teaching of this multi-dimensional subject, our pupils are empowered to challenge, celebrate and value themselves, others and the ever-changing world in which they live. Our school-wide approach aims to develop pupils' emotional literacy, building resilience and nurturing their mental and physical health, as well as supporting their academic growth and achievement. It seeks to equip pupils with the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes to enjoy healthy relationships and lifestyles now and in their futures.
Implementation
The National Curriculum requires high quality, evidence-based and age-appropriate teaching of PSHEE in order to help prepare pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life. At Cedarwood, our PSHEE teaching is supported by the Jigsaw scheme, which is updated annually and provides a sequenced progression of lessons, building on previous learning. PSHEE themes are woven throughout the curriculum allowing the flexibility to deliver relevant and engaging teaching opportunities within other subjects and in response to events in school and the wider world.
Through our PSHEE and wider curriculum we aim to:
- promote spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils, at school and in society
- celebrate achievement
- build awareness
- nurture physical and mental health
- support wellbeing
- value and encourage individuality and self-discovery
